ND Senate Votes Down One Higher Ed Reform Amendment

Yesterday I wrote about five proposals for reforming the governance of North Dakota’s university system. Today one of those proposals got shot down in the state Senate. SCR4028, introduced by Senator Joe Miller, went down on a 13-34 vote with no debate other than comments in support from the sponsor.

What’s interesting is that the amendment came to the floor of the Senate with no recommendation from committee. The carrier, Senator Nicole Poolman, stated that this was because members of the committee believe there is a need for this sort of reform but felt that Senator Miller’s bill was the wrong vehicle for it.

Also interesting is that Senator Tony Grindberg, who has been carrying the water of the university presidents in the war on Chancellor Hamid Shirvani, voted for this bill.
