During his campaign, I was a supporter of my friend and colleague Rick Becker in his candidacy for Governor. I am proud of the effort and focus Rick put into his bid for the nomination and I will continue to work with him on legislation in future sessions.

Rick made the commitment early on (as did Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem) that if he were unsuccessful at the convention, he would abide by the delegates’ collective wishes and not advance his name to the primary ballot. It was a respectful decision at the time and upholding the promise now is even more admirable.

I fully intend to remain actively engaged in the gubernatorial election in North Dakota and of the remaining candidates, I believe our Republican nominee Wayne Stenehjem is the best qualified.

When Wayne contacted me last October asking for support, I explained my commitment to Becker and Wayne was extremely gracious, classy and most importantly, understanding.

I endorse Wayne Stenehjem for governor not only because of his personable style but because of his experience guarding North Dakota against federal overreach.

I look forward to the Stenehjem / Poolman ticket leading North Dakota while we continue to promote conservative principles in our state.

Finally, while I’m not speaking for him, Dr. Becker is aware and supportive of my endorsement of Wayne.
