Teachers don’t like taking risks.
That’s what several researchers from the University of Arkansas set out to evaluate in an experiment they conducted with 132 university students.
They found that students in a masters of teaching program avoided riskier choices at a significantly higher rate than law or graduate business students.
Their findings are outlined in a recently published study: Risky Business: An Analysis of Teacher Risk Preferences.
One of the researchers, James Shuls, assistant professor at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and fellow and the Show-Me institute, explains what this means for education reform.
