Port: North Dakota Democrats may have the right candidate to actually win a statewide office

Minot, N.D. — All weekend, here at the Democratic-NPL’s state convention in Minot, chairman Patrick Hart and other party apparatchiks have been extolling the energy on display.

Those words weren’t true, were merely wishcasting, until Trygve Hammer took the stage.

Hammer is a candidate for the Public Service Commission. He’s from Velva, which is southeast of Minot, and ran unsuccessfully for a House seat in District 6 last cycle.

Why does he represent a good shot for a political party that has won just one statewide election in North Dakota since 2008?
