Port: Doug Burgum shouldn’t be telling voters that he helped pass term limits

MINOT, N.D. — Recently, a reader in Iowa passed along some photos of a mailer they received from Gov. Doug Burgum’s presidential campaign.

And by mailer, I mean it’s more like a booklet. It’s been reported that Burgum is currently spending more than any other candidate in the race , and this is a manifestation of that. Mailers like this aren’t cheap. But what’s more interesting than the fact that Burgum is, as expected, spending lots and lots of money on his presidential campaign is one of the claims made in the text of the mailer itself.

Burgum claims he “helped pass term limits” to “get rid of career politicians in both parties.”

This, it must be said, is not an accurate characterization of Burgum’s relationship to term limits or his involvement in how they became law in North Dakota.
