With the Omaha House race hanging in the balance, the folks in charge of counting Tuesday’s ballots have issued a news blackout.

At the same time Congressman Lee Terry, who is trailing Democrat Brad Ashford by 4,100 votes, is scheduled to make an “election announcement” at 1:30 Wednesday (today).

Following this morning’s 3:30 a.m. vote update, the Douglas County Election Commission posted the following message on its public website:

“The 3:30 a.m. result release will be the final result release of the night. The next result release will occur no earlier than Friday, November 7, 2014.”

It appears Ashford has defeated Terry, but the eight-term incumbent has refused to concede.

The unofficial results with all precincts reporting have Ashford leading by 4,100 votes, 49 percent to 46 percent.

The wild card: A reported 15,000 absentee ballots (mail in or early ballots) may not be counted until Friday.
