Port: Lawmaker suggests cutting of funds for Fargo School District after trans bill pushback

MINOT, N.D. — Yesterday we got news that Rupak Gandhi, the superintendent of Fargo Public Schools, was planning, with the apparent backing of the school board, to ignore a new state law pertaining to pronoun and bathroom use for trans students.

Now one of the lawmakers who supported that legislation has called for retaliation in the form of a cut to the district’s state funding.

State Rep. Bill Tveit, a Republican from Hazen, made the comments after state Rep. David Clemens, a Republican from West Fargo, sent a link to the school board meeting where Gandhi made his remarks.

“That is a sad but defiant position,” Tveit said in response to the email. “An apparent line has been drawn in the sand. I would suggest we withdraw and withhold any and all state funding going forward.”
