MINOT, N.D. — Imagine taking a deduction on your taxes saving you significant amounts of money.

Now imagine that a court comes along, at a later date, and decides the deduction is being calculated incorrectly, and the tax bureaucrats come after you demanding back payment going back decades, giving you only 90 days to calculate and remit the appropriate amount, with interest added, or face stiffer interest fees and penalties.

This despite the government being aware of your deductions and approving of them, year after year.

Would you feel that was fair?

Probably not.
