Did Someone Purposefully Derail a Train Carrying North Dakota Oil?

MINOT, N.D. — There has been much talk about political violence of late, and it has been appropriately centered on the Jan. 6 riot in Washington, D.C., inspired by disgraced former President Donald Trump’s conspiracy-mongering about the 2020 election results.

But if we’re going to get serious about political extremism, the discussion can’t just be about Trump supporters.

A train carrying crude oil from North Dakota derailed and caught fire in December near Custer, Wash. Now, per a report from KFYR, “a rail union official has told investigators that the derailment was an act of sabotage.”

The officials investigating the derailment, including personnel from the FBI, the Federal Railroad Administration, and the National Transportation Safety Board, haven’t offered an official conclusion yet, but the derailment “happened near where two people had been arrested a month before and accused of attempting a terrorist attack on train tracks to disrupt plans for a natural gas pipeline,” the Associated Press tells us.
