Video: Debate Over Anti-Abortion Bill Gets Testy In North Dakota Senate

12

Yesterday SAB had a post up about the anti-abortion bills which passed in the state Senate, but I thought it would be instructive to show you readers some video of the rather testy (by the muted standards of the North Dakota state legislature) debate surrounding the measure.

Senator Margaret Sitte (R-Bismarck) (who was herself targeted in her home by gay activists last week) stood up in defense of the legislation. She was followed by Senator Connie Triplett (D-Grand Forks), who began to launch into a personal attack on Senator Sitte before being cut off by Lt. Governor Drew Wrigley acting in his role as President of the Senate:

What’s troubling about Senator Triplett’s attempt at a verbal attack on Senator Sitte is just how factually inaccurate it was.

It seems that the left is fond of setting up straw man arguments about these abortion bills, claiming that they’ll outlaw contraception among other things, and then attack them furiously. But it’s disinformation.

Senator Triplett claims that this bill would make contraception illegal. But as Senator Spencer Berry (R-Fargo) points out toward the end of the video, the bill has specific language stating that it does not apply to contraception.

It seems the left’s arguments against anti-abortion bills are based on hyperbole, misrepresentations and personal insults.

This issue deserves a better sort of debate.
