Tony Magnall: If You Want Influence, Become A Libertarian

If you vote Democrat or Republican, you have zero influence in Washington.  That’s right.  Zero.  This is not hyperbole, rather it is scientific fact.  As evidence I submit to you this study, and the damning statistics therein (link also posted at the bottom of this article).  Here is a short excerpt:

“A shattering new study by two political science professors has found that ordinary Americans have virtually no impact whatsoever on the making of national policy in our country. The analysts found that rich individuals and business-controlled interest groups largely shape policy outcomes in the United States.”

“This study should be a loud wake-up call to the vast majority of Americans who are bypassed by their government. To reclaim the promise of American democracy, ordinary citizens must act positively to change the relationship between the people and our government”

And thusly has politics proceeded in America for far too long.  Special interests have purchased the two major political parties outright, and that money is then used to bully every representative with a “D” or an “R” next to their name into submission as members of both parties fall over themselves in a craven attempt to appease their monied handlers.  The end result is necessarily gridlock, corruption, and failure on governmental scales.  Every new major party representative who initially sets out to do good instead does very well, and ultimately fails at making any positive reforms in either party.

So, why am I killing your buzz right now?

I’m doing so because there is a solution, and I’d like you to be a part of it.  On Saturday, May 9th, from 5pm – 7pm, the North Dakota Libertarian Party is holding a Candidate Social at The Blarney Stone in Bismarck.  This will be an opportunity for anyone who is fed up with having zero influence in Washington to come out and meet like-minded individuals who have woken up to reality.  This is an opportunity to interact with people who carry the banner of liberty, and to join our ranks as either a supporter or a candidate in the upcoming election.   Candidate positions are filling up fast, though, as a new wave of concerned citizens rise off the couch and enter into the process.  If you are at all interested, this may be your best opportunity to throw your name in the hat, so be sure not to miss it.  Even if you have no interest in running as a candidate, there are plenty of ways you can begin to make your political influence non-zero, and this meeting is the first step towards that goal.

The tides are turning, and the power base in Washington is getting nervous.  They’ve sold us the lie of the “wasted vote”, meaning that everyone assumes if they don’t vote for the “lesser of two evils” then the other guy will win.  However, the choice is no longer Democrat, Republican or Libertarian.  The choice is Zero Influence or Libertarian.  I’m sorry, but it really is that stark, and voting for Zero Influence, whether it is for Democrats or Republicans, is objectively a wasted vote.  The major parties are rotten to the core, and trying to reform either party from within is a lost cause.  Even if you have sided with either of the two major political parties your whole life, neither party is currently capable of representing you.  At least give us a chance, because, as common sense and hard statistics prove, you quite literally have nothing to lose.
