Third UND Employee Arrested For Sex-Related Crimes

Yikes:

GRAND FORKS – A University of North Dakota police officer was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of possessing child pornography, UND Police Sgt. Danny Weigel confirmed.

Paul Meagher, 42, was booked into the Grand Forks County jail at about 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to the jail log.

Meagher was placed on administrative leave after the UND Police Department was informed Meagher was the focus of a criminal investigation, according to a news release issued by the UND Police Department.

Weigel said this morning Meagher is being investigated for having child porn.

An internal UND investigation found Meagher had violated departmental policy, university policy and law enforcement code of ethics and the university is planning on firing him, according to the release.

This is the third UND employee arrested on sex-related charges this year.

Back in August Robert William Beattie, who chairs the Family and Community Medicine Department at UND, was indicted on federal charges for allegedly possessing child pornography. On September 1 it was reported that Randall Scott Bohlman, the associate director of sustainability at UND, was arrested in a prostitution sting in Minnesota.

These men are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, but obviously this isn’t a good trend for the school.

But don’t expect UND President Robert Kelley to send out a campus-wide email condemning these incidents as he did when Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity members were accused of a hate crime (charges that later turned out to be bogus).

Fraternity brothers accused of a hate crime is a convenient fit for all sorts of left wing tropes. But campus staff and faculty involved in crimes? There’s a different standard for that sort of thing.
