Thank Trump for Republicans Blowing Georgia Runoffs

MINOT, N.D. — For at least the next two years, Democrats will control the U.S. House, the U.S. Senate and the White House.

Republicans have President Donald Trump to blame for this, and not just because that supposed political mastermind couldn’t manage to get himself re-elected against a doddering Joe Biden.

Trump cost Republicans those Senate seats in Georgia that were won by Democrats last night. As I write this, Republican Kelly Loeffler has lost and the other Republican, David Perdue, is losing by a number of votes no recount is going to overcome.

Why is Trump to blame? “With control of the Senate at stake in the state’s two races, the president chose to spend weeks peddling baseless claims that Georgia’s electoral system was rigged, fueling an online movement to boycott Tuesday’s election,” Politico reports. “He demonized the state’s Republican leaders and fractured the local GOP.”

These days, to hear the vocal-but-shrinking number of Trumpkins tell it, to criticize Trump is to abandon conservatism. You either believe Trump is a good president or you’re a RINO. Which is to say, a Republican-in-name-only.
