Citing "Legal Limbo" Fargo Democrat Scot Kelsh Latest Legislator To Retire

Rep. Scot Kelsh, a Demcorat representing Fargo’s District 11, told me this morning that he’s not running for re-election in 2014.

“Not stating any reasons at this time,” he told me. “I’ll just say that it is time to move on. Some things in legal limbo.”

Not sure if that last comment is a reference to the DUI arrest for Kelsh late last year. That case is currently still pending. Kelsh has plead not guilty, and there is a hearing on a motion to suppress evidence scheduled for March 3rd.

When a Republican Senator Joe Miller was arrested for a second DUI, Democrat Senate Minority Leader Mac Schneider called on him to resign.

Kelsh. who has served in the state House since 1996, is the fourth (by my count) Fargo-area legislator to announce he’s not running.

The other three are Republicans including Sen. Tony Grindberg of District 41, Rep. Joe Heilman of District 45 and Rep. Al Wieland of District 13.
