Sarah Palin Gives Say Anything A Nice Shout Out During North Dakota Visit

If I might pause for a moment for a personal reflection, Sarah Palin was in North Dakota yesterday speaking at a fundraiser for a Christian school in Williston. On her way out of town she posted a nice shout-out to me and SayAnythingBlog.com on Facebook.

It is always nice to hear someone say that SAB is important to North Dakota, and stands out nationally, but to be fair Palin is also tipping her hat to a hometown boy.

Some of you may not know this, but I was born in Anchorage, Alaska, and raised in Wasilla. I used to play on the floor in the Mayor’s office in City Hall (my mother was a clerk and my kindergarten was in the same building). Some of my earliest involvement in politics that wasn’t irritating Wasilla’s first female mayor Dorothy Page with my matchbox cars came from helping my mother run a polling station in City Hall.

That’s me on the end. The shrimp with the mop of black hair.

By the time Palin was elected Mayor of Wasilla at the dawn of her meteoric rise to national fame my family had already moved to North Dakota. But Sarah’s parents, the Heaths, and my own were close friends in Wasilla. And Sarah herself was friends and teammates with my sister, Katy.

Those were good days. I’ve always thought of Alaska as home, and it took years of living in North Dakota for it to grow on me. I love where I live now. I’ve got a North Dakota wife, and I’m raising North Dakota children, but there will always be a special place in my heart for Alaska.
