President Of Dickinson State University To Resign

Dickinson State University President D.C. Coston has announced his pending resignation, according to the Dickinson Press. He’s planning on quitting once a replacement is picked.

Coston had been quietly looking for another job even as he has publicly claimed that things are improving at DSU. In April of last year he was named as a finalist for chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, but he was ultimately passed over for the position.

Coston’s tenure at DSU has not been without turbulence. He came in amid a diploma mill scandal under his predecessor Richard McCallum which saw the university issuing hundreds of phony diplomas, complete with trumped-up grades and transcripts, mostly to international students. He presided over a close review of the university’s accreditation resulting from that scandal, and of late has been weathering the storm as the Dickinson State University Foundation has been forced into receivership due to serious financial mismanagement.

Throughout these scandals DSU has grappled with plummeting enrollment and the overall sense that the campus just isn’t really someplace you want to send your kids.

Can anyone blame the guy for looking for an exit strategy in Wisconsin? And probably elsewhere?
