U.S. Senate candidate Gary Emineth joined me on air today to address controversy surrounding inflammatory social media posts he’s made over the year.

Right off the bat, I asked him about his claim that he didn’t know what the acronym “POS” stands for when he used it in a post about President Barack Obama. “I really mean to type POTUS,” Emineth told me.

“I wouldn’t have called the President a POS,” he added, though he continued to claim that he didn’t know what the acronym stands for. Which, honestly, seems about as likely as Democrats not understanding what a high five is when they see Senator Heitkamp lay one on Chuck Schumer after helping kill an abortion bill.

Emineth didn’t dispute making any of the posts. “I don’t deny any of these posts I’ve made,” he said. “I wasn’t a candidate at the time. I wasn’t the party chair.”

I’ve known Gary for years now, and he’s an outspoken Christian, so I asked him about his post of a meme declaring that no mosques should be built in America. Doesn’t he support religious liberty?

“That’s a good question,” he acknowledged.

“A lot of the radicalization that comes from around the country comes from these mosques,” he said, though he added that he’s not opposed to letting Muslims build them.

“Yeah, I posted it, so what?” he said of the meme. “I’m not that worried about it.

He blamed Senator Heidi Heitkamp’s campaign for pitching this story to the national media, and said the whole controversy was built on “15 or 20 tweets out of 3,000.”
