Podcast: Bismarck Mayor Says Parkland Student Activists Are “Being Used as Pawns”

On the radio show today newly-elected Bismarck Mayor Steve Bakken joined me to discuss the recent visit to his community by the anti-gun student activists from Parkland High School, including David Hogg.

Bakken spoke at a pro-2nd Amendment rally outside of the Parkland event and then was invited inside to listen to the presentation.

He called the bus tour the students are on “somewhat of an orchestrated movement,” he said though he was curious as to their mission in North Dakota.

“The bus tour is to register voters and register Democratic voters for gun control,” he said. “You come to North Dakota and you don’t know we don’t have registration?”

He also said the students are “being used as pawns.”

“It’s not right for anyone to manipulate them,” he said.

“They’re being used as pawns for an agenda. They’re being funded by Soros. Plain and simple,” he added, a reference to billionaire George Soros who is a patron of numerous left wing causes. Soros has disputed claims that he’s involved with the activism of the students.

Congressman Kevin Cramer also joined me on the show today to recap President Donald Trump’s rally on his behalf in Fargo this week. He also responded to accusations from Democratic Attorney General Candidate David Thompson that he improperly reimbursed himself for campaign mileage. Thompson has filed a complaint with the FEC over those allegations.

“I think Democrats aren’t used to traveling around North Dakota,” Cramer quipped about the suggestion that he’s being paid for too many miles.
