TOM STROMME/Tribune Paul Schaffner announced he will seek the GOP nomination for Senate at a press conference in Bismarck on Monday morning. Schaffner is from Minot.

This column was submitted by Paul Schaffner, previously a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate who below announces he’s running for the U.S. House.

I appreciate the opportunity to address the readers of SAB.

I am running for US Congress for numerous reasons from love of country, community, and my belief in conservative values. I promise I will keep the government out of your bedroom, wallet, and gun cabinet.

We have an ethics problem in North Dakota – actually no ethics exist . We have a legislature unwilling to submit to any type of review. A judiciary indistinguishable from bar association “ keeping kids and $3,000 flat fees 1st.’ While North Dakota GOP establishment has sold its soul to the cult of Trump. Interestingly, Kelly Armstrong is a member, supporter, or leader of these organizations.
To be clear I have grown to appreciate President Trump on some issues. He has brought swagger back to the economy. But remember this – until President Trump was a foregone conclusion this was a Cruz state. So, aside from money, why is Kelly Armstrong, drinking the Kool-Aid, after all, Trump is not a conservative – is he?

Let’s look to “Flag Gate” and the manipulation of the masses for political gain. Our founding father’s believed in natural rights – rights which precede government and flags. Conservatives do not believe in coercion, conservatives believe in a society based on reason and consent.

Reason and consent leads to liberty and to the emancipation of creative differences; wrongly understood, leads first to conformity and then to despotism.

James Madison believed “ambition must counter ambition.” President Trump is a fighter I respect this trait. But the disrespect to Robert Mueller is misplaced not because Mueller won a bronze star in Vietnam, rather it shows an ignorance, to the foundation of the American Republic.

Our founding fathers believed in religious independence from politics, is its great strength. Government cannot reconcile a person or ameliorate, the human condition. This is not the role of government it is the role of institutions of faith. President Trump’s attempt to entangle church, and state this not a conservative value.

President Trump appointed Jefferson B, Sessions as attorney general. A man trying to make America first by reshaping America into Southern District of Alabama. It is ironic Sessions a man steeped in southern tradition of states rights would have the sublimation skills to enforce federal law in places where government presence is not wanted. Notwithstanding his views on civil asset forfeiture. His (Sessions) argument government has a legitimate interest in seizing property without due process is incompatible with the constitution and founding principles. Our constitution places rights outside the whims of despots and mob rule of the majority.

Let’s analyze the conceptual origins of “ best interest of children.” First, let’s give credit to article 3 of UN convention. Next, give credit to institutions of higher education similar to Northwestern Universities Family and Child Justice center run by Bernadine Dohrn. From NU, community organizers ascend to advisory positions developing community organizers and action plans undermining the traditional role of the family in a child’s life. Armstrong is a member of the bar and judiciary committee at best he (Armstrong) is ignorant to these policies at worst he believes “it takes a village to raise a child.”
