Obama In 2006: I'm Not Voting To Raise The Debt Ceiling

“It’s a sad state of affairs,” said President Obama in 2006. “We just voted to increase the debt limit. The US total debt at this point exceeds eight trillion dollars. That’s eight trillion, with a T. So we’ve gotta get our fiscal house in order here in Washington. I’m not sure it’s gonna happen under the current leadership in Congress.”

Unfortunately for America, the 2012 version of Obama feels much differently about the debt ceiling, accusing Republicans of leveraging “the financial well being of the American people.

…Republicans in Congress have two choices here: They can act responsibly, and pay America’s bills; or they can act irresponsibly, and put America through another economic crisis. But they will not collect a ransom in exchange for not crashing the American economy. The financial well-being of the American people is not leverage to be used. The full faith and credit of the United States of America is not a bargaining chip.

I’d like to hear President Obama tell us what’s difference between now and 2006? Other than the fact that our national debt is more than twice as large?
