#NoDAPL Protester Accused of Abusing Her Elderly Mother at Camp Is Arrested

Yesterday I wrote about a horrifying story out of the main #NoDAPL protest camp in which an 82 year old woman was allegedly left by her daughter zip tied to a chair in her own urine and feces.

Today I can report that Morton County, which rescued the woman from the camp, has arrested the daughter.

The full press release is below. An excerpt:

A 58-year-old Las Vegas woman was arrested yesterday around 4:10 pm on a felony warrant for endangering a vulnerable adult.

The affidavit says that Kathleen Bennett restrained and physically abused her 82 year old mother while at the Oceti Sakowin protest camp in Morton County.

According to the criminal complaint, Kathleen Bennett “knowingly performed an act that caused a vulnerable elderly adult’s life to be endangered, health to be injured, or pre-existing physical or mental condition to deteriorate, and failing to perform acts that the defendant as a caregiver knows are necessary to maintain or preserve the life or health of a vulnerable elderly adult.”

The mother was “zip-tied to a chair, wearing only a heavy sweater” the Bismarck Tribune reported yesterday adding that she “was not wearing a diaper and [was] surrounded by her own urine and excrement.”

And remember, the woman was living in a teepee. In the middle of a blizzard.

If the allegations against Bennett are true I hope they throw the book at her.

But also, how many other people at the camp were aware of this situation and did nothing?
