Man Who Attacked Conservative Group Identified Target On Left-Wing "Hate Map"

The Southern Poverty Law Center maintains on their website a database of people and organizations who they feel are dangerous bigots and racists. This “hate map,” though, often includes groups and organizations whose politics the SPLC simply disagrees with.

Case in point, the Family Research Council, which is on the “hate map” because they oppose gay marriage.

Last year the FRC’s headquarters in Washington was attacked by a shooter in the midst of the national controversy over Chick-Fil-A’s position on gay marriage. It now appears as though the shooter identified his target through the SPLC’s “hate map.”

Now, we all remember when Sarah Palin was all but indicted as a co-conspirator in the shooting of former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords because she had published a map with targets over Democrats Palin was hoping to help defeat in the election. That was unfair to Palin because her intent obviously wasn’t to provoke violence.

But I wonder if the SLPC, whose “hate map” is clearly more provocative than anything Palin did, will be held to that same standard.

My guess is no, because the SLPC is a left-wing organization and the target of violence was conservative, and that doesn’t fit the narrative.
