Hypocrites: Anti-Gun Democrats Seeking Pro-Gun Candidates For Swingstates

0

On the national level the Democrat push to toughen gun control laws was undone by red-state, pro-gun Democrats who joined with Republicans to kill the effort in the Senate. But even as the push for tougher gun control policies continue, Democrat party officials are seeking more pro-gun candidates to run in the coming election.

Democratic leaders are wooing staunchly pro-gun candidates to run in pivotal Senate races at the same time they are discussing a strategy for bringing gun control legislation back up for debate.

The two-pronged effort has prompted Republicans to accuse the Senate Democratic leadership of hypocrisy, but Democrats say it is simply smart politics. …

The question is whether two of the Democrats’ most promising potential candidates in Montana and South Dakota will pay a price for the leadership’s political maneuverings in Washington. Or will recruiting candidates who do not support President Obama’s gun control agenda have any effect on Democratic fundraising efforts?

Those are interesting questions, but more to the point, this maneuvering with candidates is a tacit admission that gun control is not nearly the easy sell national Democrats make it out to be.

It’s to make the argument that the public at large wants more gun control when Democrats are forced to find pro-gun candidates to win elections.
