Hey NDSU, Segregation Is as Dumb Now as It Was in 1963

MINOT, N.D. — “In the name of the greatest people that have ever trod this earth, I draw the line in the dust and toss the gauntlet before the feet of tyranny, and I say segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever.”

Those were the words George Wallace, speaking in 1963 from the portico of the Alabama state capitol, the very spot where Jefferson Davis had been sworn in as the president of the Confederacy. Wallace, an ardent segregationist who would go on to run for president, was giving his inaugural address after being elected governor.

Wallace later recanted his support for segregation, but I wonder, if he were alive in 2020, what he would make of how popular the idea of racial segregation was on America’s college campuses.
