For What It’s Worth: Armstrong Wins College Republicans House Race Straw Poll, Campbell Comes in Third

Going into the NDGOP convention this weekend there will be a couple of contested nominations.

Incumbent Secretary of State Al Jaeger is facing a challenge from Mandan businessman Will Gardner, but the more high profile competition will be for the U.S. House race.

There are five candidates, but the two front runners are state Senator Kelly Armstrong and state Senator Tom Campbell. Also competing are Minot residents Paul Schaffner and DuWayne Hendrickson, as well as Marine veteran Tiffany Abentroth.

Who is likely to win the House race? It’s a good question. For what it’s worth, the North Dakota College Republicans did a straw poll in the race which had Armstrong winning with a majority out of the five candidates:

I’m dubious as to the efficacy of this poll. DuWayne Hendrickson runs for the NDGOP nomination for the House every election cycle and never gets out of the single digits in terms of vote total. That he got enough support to take second place in this poll, ahead of Campbell, makes me think the poll wasn’t very scientific.
