Democrat Who Thought Magazines Were Bullets Is Still Clueless

Yesterday Congresswoman Diane DeGette became a bit of a laughingstock by talking about gun magazines, in the context of a ban on high-capacity magazines, as if they were bullets.

“What’s the efficacy of banning these magazine clips? I will tell you these are ammunition, they’re bullets, so the people who have those now, they’re going to shoot them,” she said (video here). “And so if you ban them in the future, the number of these high-capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available.”

Well today her office is trying to walk back the statements, claiming the congresswoman simply misspoke. You see, she meant clips not magazines.

“The congresswoman has been working on a high-capacity assault magazine ban for years and has been deeply involved in the issue; she simply misspoke in referring to ‘magazines’ when she should have referred to ‘clips,’ which cannot be reused because they don’t have a feeding mechanism,” Johnson said.

Actually, clips in most guns can be reused as well.

Here’s the problem: Clips aren’t ammunition either. And most clips, like magazines, are totally re-usable.

Remember: This woman is backing national policy to regulate something, and she doesn’t really know what that something is.
