Red state Democrats are making hay on this issue. They’ve had to tip toe around President Donald Trump’s popularity for the most part – that’s certainly been the trend here in North Dakota – but this trade fight represents a genuine opportunity to go after Trump and the Republicans who support him in a way that many red state voters are going to see as valid.

Yesterday Democratic House candidate Mac Schneider was on my radio show and was tough on Trump on this issue. And you know what? Outside of a bit of exaggeration no doubt driven by partisan politics, he’s not wrong.
