City Cuts Hours For Municipal Workers Due To Obamacare

40 hour work week

Just another moment of “hope and change” brought to you by the Affordable Care Act.

Due to the health insurance requirement of “Obamacare,” Milford Township’s part-time employees have new limits on how many hours they can work each week.

The township Board of Trustees voted unanimously Jan. 16 to restrict township part-timers to a maximum work week of 28 hours. This keeps them from being designated as full-timers who must be provided health care coverage, according to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The Affordable Care Act requires any employer with 50 or more full-time workers to offer health care coverage or pay a penalty. A full-time employee is defined as anyone working 30 hours a week or more.

Last week, in writing about colleges slashing hours for professors thanks to Obamacare, I wondered if the definition of “full time employee” embedded in the law wasn’t an attempt to win over the far-left’s long-sought goal of lowering the 40-hour work week.

Because that’s certainly what’s happening for millions of Americans across the country who are seeing their hours cut back to 30 hours/week or less to avoid the Obamacare’s insurance mandate.

That’s the Affordable Care Act for you. Making health insurance more expensive, even as it results in you getting less hours to work.
