If you’ve experienced some weirdness on SAB today, that’s because we’ve been in the process of upgrading the site to a new template.

The new design is a bit less linear than the old one, but I think it’s a better way of organizing content. On the front page is a news slider showing the “featured” posts of the day. Below that are sections for North Dakota-centric posts and posts more focused on National issues. Clicking the category labels (which are also available in the navigation menu at the top of the page) will take you to a page showing posts from that category exclusively.

Also exciting is the “New Posts” feature at the top of the page. Clicking it will show you all the posts from that date from whatever category. If you want to see what the latest is, that’s the spot to go.

The new template also adopts easily for mobile devices. Whether you’re on a phone or a tablet, SAB should load nicely.

Commenting will work the same way as always.

There are a few things missing for now.

For those of you with reader blogs, they’re still online and look the same as before. We made no changes to the templates. The feed with the latest posts isn’t on the front page yet. That’s coming. Be patient.

The headlines section is also gone for now. That will be coming back soon, along with some new features.

SAB has been around for along time now – the blog will be ten years old this September – and we hadn’t done a facelift in a few years. I know these sort of changes can be confusing for you regulars, but I think the new look and new features will ultimately make the SAB reading experience better.
